Small Cotton Throw - Paisley Blues
Small, soft and snuggly, this type of kantha blanket is cherished by many, warming laps on cold winter nights, comforting children as they fall asleep and giving a touch of character and style to a room as a throw.
Made in Bangladesh from reclaimed cotton saris each side features a different fabric. It takes hours of careful hand stitching in even and straight rows with 6 layers of vintage saris to create this beautiful piece of work. This ancient craft of kantha stitching has meant many sari's have been repurposed over the generations. We think Basha's workmanship is some of the best from its region!
Dimensions: 100 X 100 cm
Colour and Pattern: We have made an effort to capture all the colours and patterns in the blankest. There are two blankets from the same sari, one of them has the mandala design with teal strips, the other has edges with teal and some teal fabric patches.
The fabric is recycled cotton so it is very soft and snuggly along with the endearing signs of some fading. In areas of thinning cotton, the tradition is to carefully sew a patch from the same sari over this portion and each blanket may feature this workmanship. If you would prefer to see more photos of a specific blanket, please contact us, we would be happy to supply you with them.
Washing advice: These cotton throws can be machine washed on a gentle, cold cycle. The close stitching help maintain the shape of the cloth. To extend the life of the blanket, we suggest you limit the number of washes.
The sari's are washed before they are sewn and are washed again before shipping. They arrive soft, clean and beautiful.
This blanket has been kantha stitched by a Bengali woman who has now been restored from a high risk situation. Her signature is in the corner of the blanket. Read more about locally recognised fair trade organisation, Basha.
